PCM

PCM is short for Power and Consumption Monitoring. PCM assists the Chief Engineer and the superintendent in assessing the power and consumption data of ship's propulsion as well as in energy efficiency.

SOLAS requires vessels as from 01.01.2013 to implement an Energy Efficiency Management System. The Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) may be calculated for this purpose. Unfortunately, a number of impacts are not being considered, e.g. weather ans sea state, draft and trim. Therefore, the meaning of EEOI is quite limited.

A number of companies let their vessels conduct sea trials with exact measurements.  During a short period of time, e.g. 4 hours, they can exactly take several measurements under static conditions.

PCM is the right toll to assist this approach.

With PCM you can

  • document an unlimited number of sea trials
  • calculate the fuel/energy index (g/kWh) and the specific fuel consumption  (kg/nm)
  • calculate the cylinbder oil consumption (g/kWh)
  • display all data and results in a large table
  • filter data by draft ranges and trim and calculate avarages
  • display and analize specific consumptions in an energy/speed graph compared to standard curves of the vessel

PCM consists of a shipboard module and a shore module. Data can be easily transferred to shore by a file to enable analysis ashore.
